ABOUT THE POSITION:

Under the direction of the Regional Chief Partnerships Office, the VP, Provider Strategy will drive the development and deal-related execution of complex provider programs that drive value for Beacon, our clients, our providers, and our members. This VP will leverage a deep knowledge of issues related to healthcare reimbursement to develop data-driven innovative programs with providers that address regional pain points and establish Beacon as a leader in value-based care transformation. The VP will lead regional provider strategy initiatives, from in taking and prioritizing client and legislative demands, through to provider identification and engagement, program development, and contracting. This person will navigate Beacon’s matrix structure to engage and coordinate cross-functional Beacon stakeholders in program design and to build a business case for potential investment based on program implementation requirements.

Externally, this person will own the relationship with deal partners, and should be experienced in complex negotiations. There must be an ability to persuasively communicate deal elements, value proposition, and all supporting analysis. During the contracting process and once a deal is contracted, this person must ensure resources are in place on all sides to deliver the program by securing necessary investments from all parties.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Proactively identify and engage target providers who are candidates for innovative partnership models that address regional needs, such as pay-for-performance, bundled payments, payments to support accountable care organizations, hospital value-based purchasing, and various other alternative payment models
  2. Drive collaborative design of innovative partnerships with providers that will deliver value to the behavioral health system through improved outcomes, decreased costs, or other metrics
  3. Lead contract development and negotiation (with both clients and providers) for complex provider deals and innovative partnership models, engaging cross-functional Beacon stakeholders as necessary to get to the right answer that benefits Beacon, our clients, our providers, and our members
  4. Leverage deep quantitative and qualitative market intelligence to ensure that deal execution is informed by comprehensive and robust strategic analysis
  5. Lead forecasting of deal financials and inform key assumptions to ensure appropriate foundational and growth assumptions (leveraging Corporate Strategy and/or Actuarial teams as necessary)
  6. Develop strong provider relationships built on trust and collaboration. Manage provider expectations throughout the development and negotiation process.
  7. Articulate and communicate a strong value proposition for proposed partnership models in order to secure necessary approvals and investments both internally and from all deal participants
  8. Leverage strong knowledge of regional State and Federal regulations, laws and legislative agendas regarding healthcare industry that impact Beacon and our provider network in order to improve partnership models
  9. Deliver improved client and provider satisfaction through the execution of strategic programs
  10. Contribute to the development of a repeatable model for value-based payment development, for example by collaborating with Beacon internal stakeholders as well as Provider Strategy leads across regions in order to share best practices

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:           Bachelor’s degree required, with advanced degree preferred (specifically MBA, MPH or MSW).​

Licensures:          None required

Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

  • Ten-twelve (10-12) years of progressively responsible professional experience, with at least three (3) of those years with a client-facing role
  • Three-five (3-5) years healthcare payor (including managed care) experience preferred
  • 2+ years of enterprise-wise program management experience
  • 2+ years experience with design & implementation of successful value-based payment or other alternative payer-provider arrangements
  • Experience and comfort with financial model and detailed data analysis
