Beacon is currently seeking a Vice President, Risk Management to join our team at our Boston Corporate Headquarters. The VP Operational Risk Leadership will be a Strategic Leader for Beacon's management of risk products including regular production and review of risk reports and will partner with Executive Leadership, Accounting and Clinical Leadership to identify trends, develop and implement action plans.

What does a typical day look like?

  • Key interface with executive management and operational leaders to review key medical utilization data in order to develop medical expense initiatives, rate actions and other action plans to ensure that programs operate at targeted budget levels
  • Work with executive management, CFO in order to establish a library of required risk reports and manage cadence to ensure timely delivery on daily, weekly and monthly cycle
  • Coach, mentor and supervise 2-3 Analysts
  • Conducts ad-hoc evaluations of data to identify trend drivers, outlier utilization at detailed actionable levels
  • Identification of variance drivers and regular interface with executive and other leaders throughout the company to review results and develop corrective action plans
  • Key participant in forecasting and budgeting activities
  • Work with underwriting and pricing to identify risk levers that could be applied to new business opportunities and renewals
  • Conducts regular reviews of actuarial estimates including claims medical expense estimates and claims triangles
  • Helps produce documentation for and key participant in both internal account management activities and joint operating committees
  • Partner with regional presidents and account leaders to drive contract results/rate negotiations
  • Key participant in month end close

What you Contribute?


  • Master's Degree strongly preferred
  • Bachelor Degree required


  • CPA highly desirable

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 7-10 years of experience in a Healthcare setting, preferably in Finance
  • Ability to think strategically and influence others
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to interface with Senior leadership and all levels of the organization
  • Experience with operational activities including actuarial reporting and reserve accounting
  • Significant experience in forecasting and budgeting

  • Experience with claims data and reporting
  • Experience with Payers, Providers and Government Programs
  • Demonstrated leadership/management experience
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other data focused applications
