Job Description

The UNIX Administrator II will be responsible for successful administration of all IBM AIX and WebSphere systems used in support of Beacon Federal contracts; and manage daily operations of the Beacon Federal System Administration Security Group in support of these business critical systems and plan for future growth.

US Citizenship is required for this position.


  • Interface with program management personnel and Beacon Federal service centers on high level issues involving data architecture, compliance requirements, and reporting needs.
  • Providing technical assistance to the staff of developers, operators and administrators
  • Analyze software and hardware environments to determine any system defects. 
  • Identify and resolve system issues in a timely manner.
  • Management of assigned enterprise services projects or components of projects
  • Support and implementation of the Security policies and Controls as defined and developed by the Information Security team
  • Participate in an “on-call' rotation
  • Timely and accurate completion of other tasks as defined by supervisor​


  • Install and configure AIX operating systems and servers.
  • Support AIX OS to run various software applications.
  • Maintain and upgrade the AIX OS.
  • Install and test AIX OS patches.
  • Develop procedures for AIX security and management.
  • Update standard policies according to environment changes and audit results.
  • Develop performance improvement initiatives for AIX system environment.
  • Plan and coordinate the installation, testing, and maintenance of AIX systems software and related hardware.
  • Plan and execute AIX projects within approved timelines.
  • Maintain documentation of AIX hardware and software components and user and operator procedures.


  • Installation, implementation, upgrading, performance, security, patching and monitoring of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment (WASND) environments.
  • Maximizing availability and performance for all WASND and IBM HTTP Server Plugins and IBM HTTP Server systems
  • Developing a detailed understanding of WebSphere Application Server Clustering for High Availability
  • Monitoring, tracking, trending, analysis and tuning of the WebSphere environments to provide maximum system availability and uptime.
  • Experience in WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus events, problem determination, administration, and performance tuning.


  • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in System Administration, System Engineering, or System Management
  • Demonstrated hands on experience with IBM AIX and Websphere 
  • Experience with IBM HTTPS Server (HIS)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related discipline required. Twelve years of work experience in lieu of degree accepted.
