Beacon is currently seeking a Supervisor, Care Management a highly organized and compassionate professional to join our team at our Scotts Valley, CA office.  The Clinical Supervisor of Care Management works closely with the Director or AVP of Care Management to provide oversight and leadership to Beacon’s clinical operations as the Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization to the State of California to help carry out our mission of helping individuals live their lives to the fullest potential. The supervisor ensures that clinical processes and procedures are in alignment with client expectations, clinical corporate policies and procedures, regulations and accreditation standards. This includes monitoring compliance, clinical criteria and policy review, developing procedures and workflow, leading provider and staff trainings, and data analysis.

What does a typical day look like?

  1. Beacon anticipates the Supervisor of Case Management will spend about 65% of his or her time supervising staff and 35% doing direct care management services with his or her own case load.
  2. Direct service includes identification of all assigned members in care management; managing, coordinating care, tracking and reporting of all assigned members; collaboration with community programs; and maintaining accurate information in Beacon’s clinical documentation system.
  3. Oversight of the day-to-day clinical operations and staff providing to ensure compliance with all State, Federal, Plan rules, URAC and NCQA requirements.
  4. Provide direct supervision and administrative oversight of Clinical Care Managers and Care Coordinators, including timekeeping and annual reviews.
  5. Conduct periodic clinical audits; assist with client and accreditation audit preparation and presentations.
  6. Work closely with Director or AVP of Care Management to ensure clinical processes and procedures are in alignment with regulations and accreditation standards.
  7. Understands the clinical team’s standard operating procedures and works with the clinical team to develop clinical training materials, (job aides, FAQs, etc.) as needed.
  8. Assists with clinical implementation activities in new regions, or with implementation of new clinical programs with current client health plan, such as developing new procedures and work flows, providing input into covered services, leading trainings and ensuring infrastructure is in place for new hires.
  9. Facilitates regular staff meetings, clinical case conferences and coordination with UM activities to ensure members receive appropriate follow up and care through the care management program.
  10. Serves as the Beacon representative and attends community and client health plan meetings. Provides presentations around behavioral health topics as needed, as well as Beacon programs and services.
  11. Provides assistance with clinical system enhancement request, testing and training.
  12. Knowledge of benefit procedures codes and collaborates with business solutions, system configuration, business architecture, and claims on adjudication logic development.
  13. Collaborates with KMR with development of clinical reporting requirements.
  14. Adheres to all Beacon policies and procedures and standards of operations.
  15. Completes all required and assigned trainings.
  16. Performs annual staff reviews and establish individual/team goals for development.
  17. Motivates team members to reach department goals and objectives.
  18. Attends all mandatory company or department meetings.
  19. Displays a positive, constructive, and helpful demeanor that is conducive to a safe and respectful work environment.
  20. Acts as a mentor to team members by leading by example and guiding with a sense of integrity and team work.
  21. Meets regularly with team members for one on ones and staff meetings.
  22. Identifies opportunities for staff improvement, high performing team members, and training needs of team members.
  23. Partners with management to identify areas of opportunity within department and makes improvements on processes, culture, or work environment.
  24. Acts as a liaison between staff, management, and other functional departments for consistent improvements of functions and work flow.
  25. Identify misconduct and finds resolution and escalate to Human Resources.
  26. Travel to all company sponsored events, trainings, and locations based on business needs.
  27. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned and required.

What you Contribute?

Education: Master’s Degree or higher in a health related field

Licensure: Independently licensed behavioral health clinician required (RN, LCSW, LMFT, PhD or PsyD)

  • Current, valid and unrestricted licensure for independent practice required with proof on date of hire. Re-verification will take place no less than every 3 years.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Organized, creative, and have strong verbal and written communication skills and will be experienced in managing cross-functional/cross-departmental priorities.
  • Experience with Behavioral Health Utilization Review, Case Management and technical operations in a managed care setting is preferred.
  • Strong background operations management and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated, able to effectively prioritize in a fast paced environment.
  • Can-do attitude and ability to work collaboratively with internal staff and external partners.
  • Traveling 10%
