Beacon is currently seeking a Healthcare Analyst to join our team at our Boston, MA HQ office. 

The Healthcare Analyst, within the Analytic Innovation Center, supports the foundational team responsibilities of analyses exploring population health outcomes, quality of care, utilization and costs, as well as assessing impacts of specific changes in interventions, products, policies or legislation.  This individual builds datasets, analyzes outcomes and presents insights to clinical, network and regional business partners and executives.  

These analyses utilize in house claims or case management data, as well as medical and pharmacy claims, public, vendor or other data sources.  Analyses are conducted and presented via a variety of tools and techniques such as SQL, SAS, descriptive analyses, statistical analyses, predictive modeling and dash boarding.  Insights from these analyses drive development of new products and ensure high quality care for our members.

The successful Analyst is a continuous learner, motivated by applied analytics, interested in translating analytic results into actionable business insights and at ease working with both technical and business partners.

What does a typical day look like?

  • Understand business partners’ goals regarding population health management, health and economic outcomes, quality of healthcare, and product design, determine requirements and help design analyses to drive insights for their decision making
  • Extract, analyze, and interpret healthcare utilization and financial data per analytic plan utilizing software for data analysis, extraction, and manipulation (e.g. SAS, SQL), data visualization (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) and analytic automation (e.g. scripting, macros)
  • Appropriately QA and document processes and findings.
  • Present findings in best manner for end user- interactive dashboards, story boards or slide decks. Tell the story of the analysis and findings.
  • Effectively establish and maintain working relationships.

What you Contribute?

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Epidemiology, Public Health or related analytical discipline required; Master's Degree preferred

Licensure: N/A

Relevant Experience: Requires 2 years experience with prior analytical projects and coding, 3 years if no graduate degree

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Critical thinking skills with a high attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage concurrent data projects with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Drive to support business partners
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a dynamic team structure
  • Interest in applying analytics to real life problems, messy data and all
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project)
  • SQL Coding (or similar query method)
  • Statistical program/Modeling languages (SAS, R, etc)
  • Dashboarding (PowerBI, Tableau, etc)
