ABOUT THE POSITION

We are currently seeking a dynamic Finance Director to join our team with primary responsibility to lead the Maryland Finance responsibilities.  The Finance Director will be reporting to the Regional CFO of the Tri-State/Mid-Atlantic Region with dotted line reporting to the Maryland Market Leader. S/he will have direct responsibility to coordinate the Maryland financial activities and analytics.  In this role the leader will have significant client interactions including reporting responsibilities and analysis   around braided funding within the two state accounts, contract proposals, annual budgeting and variance analysis, and ensure cost management.  The Director will have managerial responsibilities of one direct report, coordinate with other Finance personnel in the region, and partner with Maryland business leadership to drive growth and profitability.

Position Responsibilities:

Managerial-

  • Provide guidance and oversight including peer review to Finance Staff on financial activities including budget/actual variance analytics and forecasts
  • Execute on goals in the Region by ensuring deadlines are met, reconciliation activities occur on a regular basis, performance guarantees are monitored, and proposals are properly costed.
  • Coach individual contributors in Finance to advance their performance and career progression
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with direct reports and set goals

Budgeting/Forecasting –

  • Coordinate financial planning activities for the Region and effectively utilize Finance shared services such as Accounting, Underwriting, and Actuarial.
  • Partner with operational and account leadership to understand key drivers, markets, cost structure and regularly update in-force and new business financial forecasts
  • Working with other Finance staff, manage the annual budget process for the Region and provide Maryland Leadership with necessary reporting and ad-hoc analytics.
  • Ensure budgets include documented assumptions, utilize latest contracted rates and trends, reflecting existing and new business.
  • Maintain documentation necessary for compliance, manage Accounts Receivable and Payables, and all regulatory financial reporting required by Maryland.

Reporting / Analysis –

  • Monitor achievement of financial goals, strategies, and business models including work on new products or synergies.
  • Responsible for Regional and client-specific profit/loss analyses
  • Coordinate production of monthly financial package to ensure consistency across the regions and clear, concise business analytics that help drive performance
  • Work with clinical and operational areas to develop weekly monitoring of KPIs

Contract Support-

  • Working with actuarial and underwriting teams, assist in pricing recommendations for client
  • Ability to develop risk-based contract models and shared savings arrangements with clients and/or Providers to achieve savings
  • Support regular client facing reporting to support risk share agreements and highlight drivers of performance
  • Leadership of processes to ensure proper revenue recognition, recording, and billing in accordance with client contracts
  • Ensure proper billing has occurred based on contracted rates and monitor A/R balance for each client
  • Work with the client to develop analytical reports to support their budgeting and to recognize variances in spend.

Special Projects

Provide analysis to senior management for frequent special projects.

Position Requirements:

Education: A four-year degree in accounting, finance or business is required.

Licenses: MBA, CMA or CPA preferred.

Relevant Work Experience:

  • Minimum Five years Finance/Accounting experience in an analytical role is required; budget experience preferred. Additionally, two years or more healthcare specific experience preferred.
  • Periodic Business Travel within the Region is required.
  • Strong analytical abilities and coordination/self-direction capabilities.  Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in fast paced environments with changing priorities.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong Information Technology and financial systems experience required, with experience in PC based, AS/400, Oracle, Hyperion and ESSBASE preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable in Financial, Demographic and Clinical Data
  • MS Office including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical abilities and coordination/self-direction capabilities.  Strong operational understanding and ability to drive change in an organization. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Hyperion / Smart View / Essbase reporting
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and Managed Care Organizations
