Job Description


We are currently seeking a dynamic Care Manager – Utilization Management to join our team at our office in Manhattan, NY.  The Care Manager will be responsible for authorizing and reviewing utilization of mental health and substance abuse services provided via inpatient, outpatient and intermediate care settings.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Determines appropriate level of care related to mental health and substance abuse treatment for members based on Beacon’s medical necessity criteria.
  • Analyzes specific utilization problems.  Plans and Implements solutions that directly influence quality of care and financial liability.
  • Interacts with physicians and other members of the provider clinical team for discharge planning.
  • Performs telephonic case review for pre-admission and continuing care in psychiatric and substance treatment facilities as assigned.
  • Performs concurrent reviews for inpatient care and other levels of care as allowed by scope, practice and experience.

Position Requirements:

Education: Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Advanced Degree in Behavioral Health Field.

Licensure :  RN or active, unrestricted license to practice independently in BH field.

Relevant Work Experience:    3 years’ experience in mental health or addictions setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Experience in TAY, older adults with MH/SA conditions, SMI, SUD, co-occurring disorders (MH with SUD, IDD or physical health); MATI, etc. preferred
  • Experience and knowledge with the following preferred:
    • Recovery oriented practices.
    • EBPs (SAMHSA and other national registries).
  • BH treatment, rehabilitation programs, supported housing, supported employment, vocational rehabilitation resources, and welfare to work programs
