Job Description


We are currently seeking a dynamic AVP Operations to join our team at our office in New York!  The Assistant Vice President (AVP) will support operations and strategy in a complex and rapidly growing health care enterprise. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong healthcare background, be skilled at strategic planning, operations and business analysis and have tenured experience managing others through both direct and indirect relationships.

The AVP, Operations is responsible for directing multiple regional initiatives spanning departments and subject areas. The position takes a hands-on approach to assertively managing all aspects of major initiatives, including working with the leadership team to define and adhere to scope, lead and present in meetings, manage work products and plans, and ensure successful completion of initiatives. The position is responsible for grasping the subject matter and applying Beacon’s operating principles to proposed solutions.

In this role, the AVP will work with strategy, development, clinical, operational, financial, legal, quality and other departments across the Beacon enterprise to identify recommend and implement process and system enhancements.

While this role will hold no direct reports to begin, the AVP will be expected to use indirect management skills to guide other regional team members and other corporate team members to ensure successful completion and execution of initiatives.

The AVP, Operations will report to the SVP and COO of the region and will have responsibilities that include operations but also business development and strategy. The AVP, Operations will be expected to work closely with the Market President and the Chief Partnership Officer of the Northeast region.


  1. Deliver operations strategy for the enterprise, capitalizing on opportunities to redefine management and execution of operations initiatives throughout the region
  2. Along with department leaders, work to minimize cost and maximize value (meet customer expectations) in the operations process
  3. Leads planning, organization and management of region-wide and activities
  4. Works with project sponsors and stakeholders to develop project plans including the scope statement, work breakdown structure, schedule, and communication plan
  5. Works with business leaders to ensure resource availability, workload and performance as well as to drive project vision through effective risk management and manage changes. Implements the approved actions and workarounds required to mitigate project risk events in order to minimize the impact of the risks on the project.
  6. Works closely with key personnel and subject matter experts across all departments to ensure coordinated management of integration project activities.
  7. Develops operational and system workflows in order to analyze and recommend business process redesign and enhancements.
  8. Manages team performance by building team cohesiveness, leading, mentoring, training, and motivating in order to facilitate cooperation, and ensure project efficiency.
  9. Organize and facilitate cross functional project meetings.
  10. Troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  11. Perform business requirements analysis on project proposals.
  12. Develop business cases supported by qualitative and quantitative business analysis.
  13. Identify and support enterprise-wide training opportunities.
  14. Develop, maintain and distribute project documentation, as required.
  15. Interface with key personnel within client, vendor, regulatory or other business partners.
  16. Track and report on project status including schedule and scope adherence, risks and issues.
  17. Departmental project tracking and reporting, record maintenance and archival, tool development.
  18. Develop and deliver presentations to executives and others, as required on programs, projects, practices and issues.
  19. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of company strategic objectives, product offerings, platform/system enhancements, and any industry, legislative, or regulatory changes that may affect the company portfolio of products and services.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Education Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred.  Advanced degree preferred, in either business, clinical, or another relevant field.
Relevant Work Experience

  • Candidate will have 10+ years of experience interacting with the medical or behavioral health provider community or serving in leadership roles within the medical or behavioral health provider community.
  • The appropriate applicant will have high-level tactical and strategic experience with demonstrated success in developing and executing on highly visible and sensitive organizational initiatives.
  • Additionally, the role requires experience-managing relationships across the company and with key customer, vendor and other relationships.
  • At the AVP level, this individual is expected to have a minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years’ previous experience managing personnel and providing formal and informal performance feedback; experience building and managing to key performance indicators a plus.

General Competencies

  • Outstanding project management, communication and interpersonal skills, analytic practical understanding and presentation skills are necessary. This individual must have the ability to participate in long range strategic planning and execution of activities as well as the management of tactical responsibilities in the short term. The AVP, Operations must be comfortable working in a matrix organization and must be comfortable leveraging and influencing indirect reports in order to accomplish goals. Finally, a solid understanding of health care payer operations is required.
