About The Position:

The Associate Medical Director will be primarily responsible for overseeing the medical utilization and review process, providing clinical supervision and collaborating with Care Managers and Clinical Supervisors for requests for substance abuse services and will be available to review requests for all services when needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops/Implements policies and procedures for management of substance use disorder services with coordination of the Director of Clinical Operations, Director of Quality Management and under the supervision of the Medical Director.
  • Consults with the Peer Advisors to ensure quality and consistent application of Beacon Health Options policies and protocols and adherence to the Medical Necessity Criteria for Maryland Medicaid services as well as ASAM criteria for substance use disorder services.
  • Serves on the QM and the Utilization Management committees.
  • Conducts peer clinical review by telephone or in person; to discuss review determinations with providers when available.
  • Available and consults on cases referred by Care Managers or their supervisors to ensure quality and consistent application of Beacon Health Options policies and procedures.
  • Has periodic consultations with providers, non-staff practitioners, CSA’s and LAA’s to support best practices in substance use treatment services.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: MD or DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) from an accredited medical school and Board Certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
    • Licenses: Unrestricted medical license to practice independently in Maryland. The candidate should hold a subspecialty Board Certification in Addiction Medicine/Psychiatry from the American Board of Preventative Medicine, American Board of Addiction Medicine or American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, who is responsible for oversight of clinical decision making and has a minimum of five years of experience in addiction medicine, including experience with medication assisted treatment for opioid SUDs.

Relevant Work Experience: The candidate must have worked in the addictions field for a minimum of 5 years.
