About the Position

The VP of Strategy & Business Development is responsible for sales and development growth via new customer expansion and increased share of wallet with current clients. The VP S & BD will develop and maintain a strong new business pipeline, managing both early and late stage opportunities through to closure. The VP S & BD must be able to engage with prospects, cultivate relationships and develop solutions Beacon can offer to earn business and be identified as a valuable partner for prospects and current clients through unsolicited bids and solicited opportunities such as health plan, government or other entity issued RFPs. The VP S & BD has the support of internal teams such as strategy, proposals, underwriting and legal however the VP remains on point from end to end of the growth process and for all stages of the Sales cycle. THey will additionally work as part of a regional team and will be responsible for engaging all applicable departments to help put forth a compelling solution for new prospects in conjunction with the regional implementation team, account management team, and operations early on in the process, as well as to manage realistic client expectations during sales cycle and contracting process. Effective collaboration and strong relationship building will be critical for success.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver new business and maintain a healthy pipeline of potential clients
  • Work together with Regional Chief Partnerships Officer (RCPO) and Government Affairs to develop a plan to identify and cultivate new clients.
  • Ability to make respected connections with prospects a must: build strong client relationships & establish executive credibility with key stakeholders including prospective clients, providers, trade organizations, government agencies, and vendor partners
  • Create opportunities to market Beacon Health Options to public sector purchasers, including attending and presenting in conferences regularly attended by employees of federal, state and local governments, and Medicaid health plans
  • Strategic thinking and creative problem solving skills a must
  • Remain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal programs & regulations and understanding key trends in target markets and nationally
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Operations team to translate identified market opportunities into viable, cost-competitive, and innovative products and solutions that will create profitable new business opportunities 
  • Collaborate across the enterprise to manage and own the development of proposals; Involve critical Beacon stakeholders (e.g. Account Executives, Operations) in the contracting process to ensure new contracts are implemented on time and on-budget
  • Monitor critical sales metrics and help meet regional sales targets each year

Position Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree required, with advanced degree preferred
Licensure:  None required
Relevant Work Experience:  5+ years of experience working in a client facing role in a healthcare environment or within a business that is directly working with health plans, state/local government providing clinical or administrative services. Behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
