VP, Medical Director- ARKANSAS- Region 3

We are currently seeking a dynamic VP, Medical Director to join our Arkansas team.  The Medical Director will be responsible for: providing fully integrated oversight of both behavioral health, physical health and pharmacy spend; oversight of our partner Primary Care Medical Director; and leadership and direction for clinical services including identification of potential quality indicators. The Medical Director works closely with our partners to develop programs to impact the overall health of members with possible comorbidities including behavioral and/or medical health, and IDD. This is a full-time position reporting to the Regional CMO.

Position Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure strong integration of physical and behavioral health care services in conjunction with our partner Medical Director.
  • Ensure quality of BH and PH care and identify needed areas of service development for our members under age 21.
  • Ensure quality of care and identify needed areas of service development for members with intellectual and developmental disabilities in collaboration with our IDD Clinical Director.
  • Develop, implement, and interpret clinical-medical policies and procedures specific to behavioral health and oversee, review, and approve medical policies developed by our medical partner.
  • Review utilization data and evaluate adverse trends in utilization of services, unusual provider practice patterns, and adequacy of benefit/payment components.
  • Provider quality profile design and data interpretation to identify opportunity for provider education, training, and orientation to promote adoption of evidence based practices.
  • Identify clinical quality improvement data to assist in reducing unwarranted variation in clinical practice in order to improve the quality and cost of care.
  • Develop and implement behavioral health sections of the QM/UM Plan, performance improvement activities and oversee grievances and appeals, with support from corporate Quality.
  • Chair essential behavioral health, pharmacy and medical committees
  • Attend regular leadership meetings.
  • Provide supervision of Associate Medical Dir.

Position Requirements:

Education: Must meet education requirements established by AR State Medical Board for issuance of AR professional license. 

Licensure:  Must have a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of AR, and have ABPN Board certification in Psychiatry. Additional Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry preferred. American Board of Addiction Medicine certification preferred. Dual training in primary care and/or family medicine preferred but not required.

Relevant Work Experience:   Minimum 5 years post graduate experience with patient care.  Minimum 3 years of experience with behavioral health/substance use disorder utilization management, preferably in a managed care and/or hospital setting.
