Job Description

The ASD BCBA/Intensive Care Manager performs an integral role by facilitating high quality, cost effective managed behavioral health care for members meeting the target population.  The BCBA and Licensed Clinician will provide a thorough evaluation of needs and work collaboratively with treating providers, the youth, and family members in order to connect the child or youth to the appropriate level of care and decrease utilization and length of stay in higher levels of care (e.g., inpatient hospitalization, emergency department). They will function as part of an interdisciplinary team designed to meet the needs of the Partnership’s ASD population. The Licensed Clinician ICM will enhance the member and provider participation in the plan of care to maximize continuous, comprehensive and coordinated care for each youth while the BCBA will work to gain a better understanding of the youth’s behaviors and integrate these findings into the plan of care. The BCBA ICM is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and/or a licensed clinician with expertise and professional experience with the ASD and/or ID populations with specific experience working in a higher level of care preferred.  They would obtain more specific training upon hiring at Beacon Health Options including the ASD Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Services EMPS trainings and the BRISC team to integrate Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-V (DSM- V) findings into crisis assessment and management. 

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Assess the needs of the identified individual through face-to-face contact wherever the individual is at their point of crisis
  2. Interview parents/caregivers, teachers and other professionals involved in the individual’s care to gain an understanding about the behavioral health needs of the individual, what treatment services are currently in place, and help the family to identify the current barriers to meeting the treatment needs of the individual
  3. Consult with the facility or behavioral health providers regarding treatment, treatment planning barriers, and discharge planning
  4. Assist providers in developing a multidisciplinary approach to treatment
  5. Facilitate treatment team meetings and discharge planning meetings 
  6. Perform utilization management reviews for individuals while they reside in higher levels of care
  7. Collaborate with the Beacon ASD and ICM team to support discharge planning efforts
  8. Respond to member’s emergent needs by providing crisis counseling via phone, assessing level of crisis and provide a time to meet to directly assess the member
  9. Present and review cases with Beacon’s Medical Director to ensure the member is connected to the appropriate level of care, and to consult for best practices
  10. Researchand refer to appropriate community resources to address needs impacting member's health, safety or ability to access care that cannot be met through contracted benefit package
  11. Help develop and facilitate implementation of the most cost effective plan of care for identified members, while helping to ensure that members receive high quality care
  12. Develop a Plan of Care after the completion of a comprehensive youth and family needs assessment to assist in facilitating access to needed services and resources in the network 
  13. Initiate and/or participate in patient care conferences with other health care professionals as it relates to the target population.
