About the Position

Beacon Health Options is currently seeking a dynamic Associate Medical Director to join our team in Seven Fields, PA or remotely! The Associate Medical Director assists the Medical Director in providing quality, cost-effective utilization management for mental health and alcohol/drug rehabilitation treatment services for the Medicaid Population in 12 counties in Western Pennsylvania. The incumbent will contribute to managing the utilization of services through peer review and grievance work, will contribute to quality management through complaint work, chart review, provider CAP management and provider education, and will manage treatment services include behavioral health and substance use disorder services for youth and adults.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Works in an interdependent environment with the clinical staff to garner summary clinical information, supplement with reviewing additional written clinical information, and clinical conversation with provider to make utilization decisions. Takes into account services available to the member/patient.  Answers clinical questions posed by care managers.  Completes records timely.  Provides medical leadership in rounds. 
  • Works in an interdependent fashion with the quality staff to cover complaint review committee calls. Prepares by reviewing the clinical summary and supporting documentation pertaining to the complaints and participates on committee calls that may include the member/patient.  The goal is to determine whether the complaints are supported or unsupported given the information provided as a result of the investigation performed by the quality staff.
  • Educate providers on various topics related to their clinical work. Relevant topics to include prescribing practices, psychiatric differentials and treatment, substance use disorder topics, eating disorder topics, or other topics related to behavioral health and substance use disorder conditions.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Director in the development, implementation, evaluation and modification of utilization management policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to audit and program improvement activities as requested.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: MD. or D.O. with Board Certification from ABPN required
  • Licensure: Current, valid, unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license required or intention to become licensed in Pennsylvania at the time of hire
  • Relevant Work Experience: 5 years of clinical practice is required, preferable in managed care and/or substance use disorder treatment
  • Travel: minimal travel required on a quarterly basis
